Cocoa Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are popular in my household, and for good reason. Sweet, soft, and fragrant with cinnamon, and perfect with a tangy cream cheese frosting. I wondered how essential cinnamon would be to the balance. What about another classic flavor, like chocolate?I prepared my usual rolls, but divided the batch in two. My normal filling is a mixture of cinnamon and brown sugar (at a ratio by weight of about 1:8). For half the batch, I stuck with my usual filling, but in the other half I replaced the cinnamon with cocoa powder. The rolls tasted fine, but the cocoa flavor ended up being dramatically less potent than the cinnamon. Replacing the cream cheese frosting with chocolate sauce was an effective solution, but actual chocolate in the filling (or more cocoa) might be needed for a chocolate boost.
